[Article] Ruling on using superstitions to find lost objects
Fatwas of Ibn Baz
83- The ruling on using superstition to find lost objects
Q: Is it permissible when someone loses something or a person is killed to go to Al-Mulawwith or Al-Mulahhis who asks the accused to lick a heated metal bar, claiming that tongue of a lying person will be burnt while that of a truthful person will not. Is it permissible to use this method to detect criminals compared to the use police dogs to identify criminals?
A: Undoubtedly, this act is Batil (null and void) and Munkar (unacceptable or disapproved of by Islamic law and Muslims of sound intellect). It is a way to burn the tongues and cause harm to Muslims. It has no basis in Shari`ah (Islamic Law) as far as we know. Rather, it is superstitious and an act of charlatans who want to consume people's wealth unlawfully. It is thus prohibited, and is in no way comparable to the use of police dogs.
(Part No. 28; Page No. 350)
If a person loses something, they may follow the tracking methods used by the Arabs and approved by the Shari`ah to find lost objects, runaway slaves or the like. As for murders in which criminals are unknown, an investigation should be run to identify them, asking those having information about the related crimes, those surrounding the crime scenes and so on and so forth. As for the use of heated bars that are applied to the tongues of suspects, such method is not permissible because it is invalid and baseless. It is never analogous to the use of police dogs, because dogs have the powerful identify criminals through smell.

[Article] The Grand Mufti of KSA regarding the Saudi Execution of 47 convicted terrorists
The Grand Mufti of KSA regarding the Saudi Execution of 47 convicted terrorists
The Grand Mufti of the Kingdom (of Saudi Arabia), who is also the Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars and the Chairman of the Departments of Scholarly Research and Ifta'; Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn 'Abdallah Aal ash-Shaykh, emphasized that the carrying out of the judicial rulings against 47 criminals[1] is based on the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him, and that in it is a taking care of the nation, its security and stability, and a protection of its peace, wealth, honour and intellect.
His Eminence said in a statement on the Saudi TV Channel 1 (KSA 1): "What we have heard was a sufficient, conclusive and adequate statement based upon the Book and the Sunnah, regarding the taking care of the nation, its security and stability, and defending its peace, wealth, honour and intellect.
He then went on to mention the personal opinions of the scholars and their unanimous approval of this issue and that it is from the essential necessities which Islam came to protect, and they are: The religion, life, honour, intellect and wealth. He then highlighted the positive results of putting the Islamic judicial rulings into practice and that in carrying them out is a mercy and a benefit for the people; that it keeps away harm from them, and that it prevents chaos within their ranks.
He said further that there is no ambiguity in these sentences, because they are the from the limits (legal laws, orders, commandments, etc.) of Allah. Everyone is treated equally. Rather they are applicable to each and everyone as he (the Prophet), may peace and blessings be upon him said: "Indeed the Children of Israel were destroyed because when a noble man from amongst them stole they would let him off and if a poor man stole they would establish the penalty on him. By Allah, if Fatimah the daughter of Muhammad were to steal I would cut off her hand."[2] Emphasising that in it is justice, fairness, removing of oppression and bringing about security.
Aal Ash-Shaykh (the Grand Mufti) explained that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a country which is founded upon Islam and the Sunnah (way of the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him), through the righteous dawah (call) which the two Imams Muhammad Ibn Saud and Muhammad Ibn 'Abd-el-Wahhab, may Allah have mercy on both, exercised. It is on all its levels grounded on the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, may peace and blessings be upon him; establishing the authority of Allah and implementing it on the criminals, abiding thereby with His (Allah's) statement:
{The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land. That is their disgrace in this world, and a great torment is theirs in the Hereafter.} [Surah Al-Ma'idah' 5:33]
His Eminence pointed out that these people, may Allah forgive us and them, committed major crimes, such as killing, building and distributing explosives, employing efforts in threatening the security and its stability and spreading terror amongst the members of the community, as being the case in many of the Islamic countries. He (the Grand Mufti) made clear that this is a great evil and a clear deception, since what is obligatory upon the Muslim is to pay attention to himself and know that he has been created to worship Allah, and thus make effort in worshipping Him, the Mighty and Majestic, in guarding his religion and respecting the blood of the people and their wealth an honour. The Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him, says: "The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hands other Muslims are safe, and the Mu'min (the believer) is the one whom the people can trust with regards to their blood and their wealth."[3]
He (the Grand Mufti) indicated that Allah, Majestic and Exalted is He, is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. And from His mercy is that He has legislated the penalties as a deterrent for the criminals, as something which will prevent them from repeating their crimes, and to inform others that this is the inevitable recompense for anyone who opposes the legislation. Allah, Mighty and Exalted is He, says:
{And there is (a saving of) life for you in Al-Qisas (the Law of Equality in punishment), O men of understanding, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).} [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:179]
The Grand Mufti of the Kingdom also said: "Our judiciary is an Islamically legislated one with no one having authority over it; no High Council, no appealing court, no general assembly, all of these courts are Islamically legislated which judge with justice[4] and no one has authority over them, ever. They implement their rulings from the Qur'an and the Sunnah. This is Allah's order, and all thanks and gratitude belong to Him. Every case which has to do with killing goes through more than nine judges and all of them have to sign it as a conclusion of all considerations and reasons for appeal, and whatever is related to that." He added saying that: "These judicial rulings are just. We ask Allah to make them an expiation of their past sins, to grant us success in achieving all goodness in the future and to protect us from the Shaytaan (the devil)." He warned against the plots of the Shaytaan, and against the envious and ill wishing people who wish to threaten the security and stability, and split the unity, and that the killing of one single soul has the punishment of having killed the entire people[5], because whoever transgresses against some has transgressed against the whole, and whoever makes lawful the blood of one Muslim has made lawful the blood of everyone, and whoever honours the blood of everyone has honoured everyone.
His Eminence the Mufti explained that from the obligations of the leaders is to protect the peace and stability, to defend the nation, to deter the oppressors and to establish justice in the land. He urged everyone to fear and to be dutiful to Allah, and to cooperate with the rulers and to aid and support them in carrying out Allah's rulings.

[Article] Sihr that causes separation between spouses and how to undo it
Fatwas of Ibn Baz
(Part No. 28; Page No. 345)
A chapter on issues related to witchcraft
Q: Dear Shaykh, I hope that you supplicate to Allah for me and my wife because both of us have been subjected to sorcery that caused me to hate her and refuse to have sexual intercourse with her, whereas if she is away, I miss her so much. May Allah protect you from every evil and bless you!
A: May Allah cure you and all Muslims! I recommend you to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, Ayat-ul-Kursy (the Qur’anic Verse of Allah’s Chair, Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:255) and Al-Mu`awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and Al-Nas) on water and breathe in the water while reciting, knowing that it is better to add to the water seven milled leaves of Sidr (lote tree/ lotus jujube), and then take a bath using this water. For, this will be helpful in removing the magic effect. It suffices to recite these Surahs on the water without applying Sidr leaves, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to (blow into his hands and) recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu`awwidhatayn three times and then wipe his hands over his face, chest
(Part No. 28; Page No. 346)
and head. Then, the pain will be removed, in sha’a-Allah. You should do so when going to sleep; recite Ayat-ul-Kursy, Al-Iklas and Al-Mu`awwidhatayn three times, blowing into one's hands, and then wipe one's hand over the head and face three times, and then the pain will be removed, in sha’a-Allah. It is permissible to recite this on some water and wash your body with it. It is also recommendable to add seven leaves of Sidr to the water, as some Salaf (righteous predecessors) used to do, and recite Ayat-ul-Kursy, Al-Iklas and Al-Mu`awwidhatayn and some Ayahs (verses from the Qur'an) on removing the magic effect, from Surah Al-A`raf, Surah Yunus and Surah Ta-Ha, on the water by yourself or by aid of anyone else and this will be helpful, in sha'a Allah.
